Walking Square
Composed for February Poetry Adventure Day 15 Prompt - Walk
Out of all the walks, The one etched in my memory Is the one my dad took Around the living room Holding me in his arms At 3 am, while I tried to sleep With a high fever. I have walked alongside him, the most, Accompanying him to the Mandis, Markets, repair shops, In buses, to clinics for tetanus shots listening to his worries, life lessons imparted with each step... I have seen him lose control Of his anger, his emotions, Seen him adamant about the rules, He remains the square in my life that refuses to bend. Worrying that he may not be the best For his loved ones Or may say something amiss. He gets hassled now Before travelling, before hosting a function, or even a meal, The walk is strenuous indeed For the ones that find it tough to let go sometimes, And just live.
‘Mandi’ - Hindi word for local street markets with vegetable vendors, usually a weekly affair.

This felt like travelling through memory lane with my own father. Such a beautiful piece
This is so sweet
