Scribing Time
Composed for the Day Six Prompt of the 'Halls of Pandemonium' Challenge hosted by Bradley Ramsey
She had little to begin with... Though there were some known cases of success, as they were wont to mention To and near her, she knew... more than what they were telling her. Once shock and denial subsided, Acceptance felt like a cheat day in her numerous fad diets, Attractive, yearned but bound to leave you at the starting line, charting out the same patterns. Pockets of time, as if superpowers being bestowed upon a battered soul, brought her remorse at their mention more than she wanted to handle. Eroding her layers to reach her hollowed out essence. Not that she cared anymore... Little mattered, as she approached the Experiment, her own phoenix persona. Biding time, yet desperate to plan, She scourged through her options. What remained of value, or meant something more than the dread She felt, despite choosing to embark upon this impending journey. Legacy! - there was none. Was it required? Wouldn't she rather retire... hidden, quiet, alone, pretending to be unbothered. Was there a desire she hadn't tapped that could simmer the stark Intensity she felt towards The finality that she now approached? Or at the very least distract her? She craved living with an urgency that evaded her for most of her life. This thirst was sudden, thoughts rushing to escape her body's prison looking for meaning when all decisions taken, pointed towards a mission holding answers, she was ambivalent about. So she gave in...since there was little to no repercussion in caving, or risks she was trying to save herself from... Paper and pen appeared unbidden. Touch being the sense She missed using the most. Worlds she couldn't imagine visiting built themselves from words she had forgotten she knew. Feelings wanted to be written, yellowed over time, crumbled... to seek rest in others' memories. Daring to breathe from an abyss that sought form, existence... Shedding the heavy, unburdened and ready.
