Disgust

Composed in 2022 and uploaded on Mirakee, now Miraquill under my pen name Advayn. Re-worked on it and sharing here today.

I don’t want to understand them!

Nor do I want an explanation from or for them.

These humans…who put in a lot of effort

To destroy nature, with a side of empathy, and a salad of other raw emotions.

They don't have the time for kindness or mindfulness.

Lives are inconsequential.

It is unbelievable the Earth tolerates them still…

while startling us with its daily symmetrical beauty.

Beauty monetised through the sales of reserved forests,

There is important work to do, the urgency to silence dissent,

To change the names of roads, courts, States and villages.

To alter history for convenience and re-tell it for their violent glory.

Coffers need to be filled and ought to be overflowing

With blood, devastation, arms deals, and a pinch of War.

This hunger drives the tirade against the 'Other'

Blame them for everything wrong.

Where is the time to pause or think?

It is deeply invested in manipulating, riling up, and instigating.

Where is the profit and the leverage they seek from riots and religious tiffs?

Religion, Caste, Clothes, Language, Food.

Whether for the chaos or the good,

They see and highlight these differences and instill fear,

while ‘the other’ only wants to live, some to survive, some to resist.

Too many things to ‘protect’,

To object to,

To promote their way as the only 'Right way', and

To annihilate the ‘degenerated Other'.

Photos and news of horrors don't affect us anymore.

Those are events in faraway lands,

Haven't ruined our own homes yet.

But at least these humans have ensured

That their boundaries, borders and land are intact,

well protected, with the forever hope to expand them.

There isn't enough misery to go around,

Some more hate and violence added to the recipe will perfect it.

What should we take up next, then?

There is a legacy to leave behind after all.
